Welcome to St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Pontefract

On behalf of our pupils, staff and Academy Council, welcome to St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School and Nursery, in the heart of Pontefract.

We are a one-form entry Catholic primary school for children from Reception to Year 6, with a warm and welcoming Nursery offering 15- and 30-hour places for children from age three. As part of the Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust and the parish of St Joseph’s, faith is at the centre of school life: our children are taught to live by the virtues, and we celebrate their successes in every area of school life.

Expectations here are high. Visitors consistently comment on our happy, inquisitive children, who are respectful and engaged in their learning in a calm and stimulating environment. Our curriculum is broad and engaging, designed so that every child can discover and develop their talents — in the classroom and through a wide range of enrichment opportunities beyond it.

Education is a partnership between home and school. We work closely with parents and carers as active partners in their child’s learning, supported by a dedicated staff team and a committed Academy Council.

As a former pupil of St Joseph’s, I know first-hand the foundation this school gives its children. My commitment is that every child achieves their academic potential, enjoys a school life filled with positive experiences, and leaves us with the values and confidence to flourish in the modern world.
